Fairford & Brize Norton
11/04/24
A day well spent with jam_aviation09 and some new faces, starting out at Fairford to catch the return of the USAF's finest aircraft having gone out very early that morning on a mission. 80-1096 RTBed around 1245 in challenging lighting conditions and blanket clouds, so I did the best I could given the situation. Immediately after touchdown, we headed to Dunsfield end to catch the taxi past the gate which never disappoints. This time I decided to use the wider angle 24-105mm lens to capture the close proximity of the Dragon Lady. I think this was the right choice of lenses, but would have appreciated an extra 50mm or so.
Compare this to my last shot of the Dragon Lady, and notice the different nose configuration, with what looks like a camera and the faint remnants of shark teeth nose art
I liked this shot due to the fence and pole acting as a leading line, drawing the eye into the aircraft. Something a little more artistic, which is something I am trying to shift my focus onto in 2024.
Then it was onto BZZ, with the usual A400s, Voyagers and a C-17 which was a nice treat as I haven't seen one in a while
To top off an excellent day, the RAF Parachute Display Team Dornier went up and conducted a training drop over BZZ - smoke and all. I haven't seen them do this yet over their home base, which is one of many reasons why I enjoy coming back to Brize time and time again.
